DET stands for the Department of Education and Training and it is a department which is operated by the Government of the state of New South Wales. The department of education and training is primarily responsible for the foundation and efficient running of the state's schools, which may be either primary or secondary schools. It is also responsible for the smooth and efficient running of and regulation of resources of colleges which are called TAFE colleges. It recently launched a student portal DET for the ease of students if they want to cover up lectures they might have missed, get up to date with the latest assignments that need to be done, viewing their performance credits and other such facilities. The department of education and training, additionally looks after and ensure the sooth operation of other categories of schools also such as pre-schools (schools for children who are in the age group called toddlers), they also look after many migrant and adult institutions of the state, not to forget that they also look after the provision of many institutes of higher education in the state. As part of their outreach program for students they launched the student portal DET which opened to an overwhelming response from both teachers and parents.

One of the kinds of institutes that are governed by the department of education and training is called the TAFE institute. The term TAFE is an anagram and stands for "technical and further education". It is the name which has been given to institutions in the country of Australia which provide higher education in fields which can be counted as vocational courses, thus these institutes focus primarily on the development of good vocational skills of their students. Currently there are seven institutions in Australia that have been identified by the administration authorities and the department of Education and Training as TAFE institutions in Australia. Many of these seven institutions have got multiple campuses throughout the country of Australia. There are many skills that can be learnt in these TAFE institutions such as accounting, electric works, and other such works. A very effective and comprehensive skill that can be learnt at a TAFE institute is that of plumbing that, plumbing is not just a skill where a plumber knows how to fix water fixtures but it is a very comprehensive field which include but is in no way limited to air conditioning, water heating, hydraulics and pipe mechanics, while there are several other skills of the plumbing trade.
